Wall Street Loves Michael?
You've probably seen the short video for the F.B. I. where Michael Douglas, aka Gordon Gekko, points out that insider trading is illegal. But in a NYT article on 2/28/12, he says he was "befuddled" by the reaction he got on the streets of Manhattan, after the first movie in 1980. Everyday traders and bankers would high-five him, or shake his hand -- for playing a character that says "greed, for lack of a better word, is good." His reaction? "I'm a criminal in the movie. Don't they realize that?"
30+ years later, Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, was touted on the cover of Time as "This Man Is Busting Wall Street". Good luck, Atty Bharara -- what an ingrained culture you are fighting.
