Trades Handbook - Coming Soon

BUILDING SUCCESS in the TRADES - Starting Out & Career Changes

Hard-won career advice for students, parents, educators and experienced tradespeople planning next moves.  By William Lussier & Georgian Lussier

This 36 page handbook explains the basics when considering a trade career, including requirements of manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, spatial reasoning, and math and reading skills.  It outlines ways to get educational and work credits, as well as the differences between licenses, certifications and registrations.

"20 Top Ten Tips for Success in the Trades" include work ethics, lifelong learning, resume updates and planning to shift from physical work.  Six examples of successful tradesmen show the many options available in the trades over the course of a career.

A Resources section lists associations, publications and examples of trade-related governmental agencies.

About the Authors:

William (Bill) Lussier is  a trainer for the State of CT on building codes, holds multiple trade licenses -- including Building Official, and earned a BS in Natural Resources from the University of Connecticut.  He has 40 years of trade experience.

Georgian Lussier taught business classes to plumbing contractors for five years, and has written a series of articles for Contractor magazine and one serving the painting and decorating industry.  In this handbook she draws on her 40 years of experience in Human Resources, including career counseling.  Find her full bio in the "About Me" tab.
